4. Is there more freedom for such commentary on cable news?
I believe that there is more freedom for commentary like this on cable news, if not only for the reason that they have more time to fill. In the 24 hour news cycle that cable news stations go though every day, you can only report on a story so many times until it is beat to death and people will stop watching. So to fill that time, news networks like MSNBC, etc use commentary, because lets be honest, almost anyone in the world could go on for hours about how they feel on certain issues, throw someone in there that feels differently and you've got yourself a program.

An interesting set of comments about this news segment that I too watched. I suppose the reason I would disagree with the "too far" aspect is that I honestly do not classify those hour long programs with these "newscasters" as being, well, news. I consider them just commentaries and therefore do not represent what the traditional form of "news" is supposed to be - factual, unbiased retelling of events. Even those blasted news-tickers at the bottom of screens aren't always just broadcasting news. Some have biased slants as shown within the language and word choice. I do feel it is good that the US allows people to have shows to express their views, even if I can't stand what those people are saying. However, I would say that having them hosted on news stations IS a bad thing since that gives the notion of it being actual news. When you turn to the Weather Channel you expect they will be talking about weather and that they must be credible sources. If you see a person talking on a news station then they too must be a credible source to get news items. Notice how I'm making this all tie back to what we discussed earlier this semester.
Yeah I guess I see what you are saying. The people I am really worried about are not the people like me though because I tend to take anything from on television news networks with a grain of salt. The people I am worried about are people that do actually believe in the non-biased new network, which because of human nature will never exist, until we start having robots broadcast the news of course, lol.
